#1 of 80 Forums Future-Member Feedback Please!

As many of you know, we've had our ups and downs with the Forums software. Maybe more downs than ups? Hopefully that will be eventually in the past. At this time, we are seeking your input. What do you love/hate about the current platform? What added features would you like to see? What features you've experienced in other forums that you absolutely would or would NOT want in Edmunds Forums?
Thanks for your help!

Karen....certainly understand how daunting a task keeping the forums straight.
Before the current "update" to the forums occured, posting...and even getting into the forums was hit or miss.
While most of that has seemed to subsided, now it's more difficult to find the forum one is interested in.
For example, I spend a lot of time in the "Stories from the Sales Front Line" thread.
There is no direct way to get there. You have to sift through sub forums to get to it.
Maybe that's a minor complaint and not worth worrying about, though.

Karen - I've been a member here at Edmunds since the late 90's, so have seen the evolution of the software over the past 15+ years.
Ability to "watch" discussions
Only see new posts within each discussion
Wouldn't mind the ability to have 'signature blocks' and GIFs attached to the member profile
I want to give a shout out to all our hosts here - I know it's a tough job, and y'all have lots of patience to keep us posters in line.

GG, absolutely the best way is to just watch the forums you are interested in. That way, you can easily see the list and how many new posts (or just click on read new)
#5 of 80 new software, what could possible go wrong?

My favorites features are the watch/new post functions, especially having new posts tracked for me.
It is a little hard to follow the discussion flow though. A double edged sword, since the posts are not nested to keep a conversation straight.
If you do move to a nesting format, please do it with a "go to next unread post" function. That way you can always see what is new without lots of scrolling.
one baseball site I frequent (sportsblog network) has this function (you hit Z, you go to the next new post, and they are highlighted in yellow) which is very handy.

Only one real issue - make the layout wider. It's 2013, nobody uses a low res monitor anymore - half the real estate on my browser is empty.

As others have said. Please keep the "My Watched Items" it is nice to have all your tracked discussions in one place showing only "new" posts.
I'll also second a wider format. I don't think there are many people running 800x600 anymore, heck even 1024x768 is probably just about dead.
My wishlist would be as follows:
The ability to attach a picture without having to hotlink from Photobucket, etc
Signature panel with option for users to hide member's signatures if they wish.
A Private Message system
#8 of 80 Embedded graphics

I think the ability to embed a graphic or picture directly into the thread would be nice, rather than having to post it to a third party and provide a link. If you're concerned about storage, maybe limit the size of the graphic. After all, this is 2013 when a TB of storage can be had for less than a hundred bucks.
#9 of 80 Make it mobile

I love the Edmunds forums but it would be neat to be able to access them from my iphone. Right now I could but it's a super slow process and does not work very well.
So a mobile friendly forum would be nice.
Also as Fintail pointed out, it would be nice to make the dialog space a bit wider, to accomodate wider photos and because most people are on wide screens anyways.

How about a wider variety of emotorcons to choose from? I have great difficulty expressing myself with just
