2001 3.0 litre S type oil leak

I could buy an S type at the local auction for about $3000 all told. It apparently has an oil leak from the crankcase seal, or something like that. I am trying to interpret the auctioneer's message.It has about 160 000 kilometres on it. The driver's seat has a hole in the leather in the usual left hand slide in location so it has seem some use.
The headlight covers are crazed as well. Otherwise seems pretty good. Runs okay but the auction has problems with its battery.
Whaddaya think? Worth buying?
I can repair the seat myself and can do some elementary mechanical repairs but still am wary of some of the possibilities.
