I had a 2012 Kia Forte EX (sedan) with just over 8k.We were driving it home from the grocery store and it started smoking (about 30 mph) so we pulled it over, and upon putting it into park we lost all power and couldn't get the key out of the ignition. By the time we got out and tried to open the hood, the paint was bubbling away and the hood was too hot to try and open. We called the fire department and watched my car burn to the ground.
It seems to have started on the driver's side- coincidentally about where the fuse box is. I had no engine or stereo modifications, and nothing else involving wiring or the motor itself. I had a lowering kit, aftermarket wheels and tires, tinted windows, and exhaust- all installed by professionals.
Has anyone heard of this happening with another Forte? My insurance is going to pay my car off so I don't have to wait for an investigation (which hasn't been done yet) but that didn't cover a down payment for a new car or replace any of the things I had inside.
