I have a couple of questions about my Sienna XLE (2004); I have recently been having problems with the vehicle such as these lights showing up on the dashboard: VSC, check engine, and maintenance required. I take it to the mechanic and they tell me that one of the biggest problems is that I need a new catalytic converter, then the mechanic clears all the lights from the dashboard.

The mechanic does tell me why he clears the lights but I do not fully understand it. Is it just so I run the car another 100 miles and see if the lights will come back on? Mind you, I have 220,700 miles on my car. Any suggestions on what I should do? How long do Toyota Siennas last?

Sounds like you're getting emissions error codes, so yeah, they'll likely come back.

The cat will start to clog up and choke the engine, so you may begin to lose power.

You can keep driving it and ignore the lights, but eventually you'll need a new cat. The old ones clog up and look like this:
