I had the apparently-typical head gasket failure on my 98 Forester. My local mechanic doesn't like some of the other noises the engine has been making and wants to replace it, but he says he can't find one. I googled and found plenty of possibilities.
 
So -- what are the best options for rebuilt engines? Advice on who to trust & who to avoid?
