#1 of 2 Starter Ground Wire by sub99

The bolt on ground wire that serves the starter on my 1999 Forester came off and for the life of me I cannot figure out where it should attach. (FYI: There are lots of engine bolts missing since I had a new transmission installed a few years ago.)

Can anyone describe where it is supposed to attach, or can I just attach it to a convenient open bolt hole on the engine block?

I believe that this vintage of Forester included a bracket that attached to the top bolt of the starter, which basically passed through the bracket, through the starter, through the bell housing of the transmission, and into the engine block, thereby fastening all three parts to the engine. It was to the *top* of this bracket that the negative battery terminal connects.

I assume, of course, that by "ground wire" you mean the negative battery terminal, as this is generally the only "ground wire" associated with the starter.
