2007 Town and Country No Heat

2007, Chrysler Town and Country. Intermittent problem: no hot air coming out of vents. The system works ok most of the time; however, at times, it just blows cold air even though I have the temperature knob turned all the way to the right. After one or two days it corrects itself and hot air starts blowing out of the vents. This lasts for a week or so, then no hot air again. Dealer replaced the thermostat. One week later – no hot air. I rotated the temperature control knob quickly back and forth several times, waited and did it again. After doing this repeatedly for about 5 minutes, I heard the hot/cold damper door open and hot air came out. Could this be a problem with the temperature control knob? I don’t want to take it back to the dealer. Can I replace this knob myself?
