Hyundai did a great job of designing and building the new Elantra. They have spent millions marketing the car. Now the dealers don't have enough inventory and are charging the public above retail. We all know by now the Japan tsunami and aftermath have driven some new car buyers away from Toyota and Honda.
What were they thinking? Doesn't Hyundai realize that they are building winner automobiles and the public wants more of what they make? Are they planning to increase capacity either in Korea or Japan? Why aren't they talking to the public about this rather than continuing to push cars they can't make enough of?
Come on Hyundai, get it together!!!! Make more cars!

You mean Korea or the USA, right? Hyundai doesn't build cars in Japan.

Not sure why this is posted in the Sonata discussion. That being said, availability must be different where you live. Around here, there are several dozen 2012 Elantras currently in stock at the local dealers.
Also, US market Elantras are either assembled in Ulsan Korea (VIN starts with "K") or Montgomery Alabama (VIN starts with "5".)
Hyundai pulled out of the passenger car market in Japan back in 2009. They sell only commercial vehicles in Japan right now. They have a design center in Japan, but I am not certain they maintain any assembly plants there.
#4 of 4 since there are discussions...
