#1 of 1 Ford Windstar Engine Mount

I recently had my a/c compressor replaced in my 2003 Ford Windstar with 182,000 miles and a 3.8 V6. As soon as I drove it the first time, I noticed noises under the hood when starting to drive. I found out that the Right Rear engine mount is loose. It lifts upward about 1/2" when shifting between drive and reverse while jacked up. I had never heard that noise before the compressor work was done. Also the engine seems to wind a little higher or make a higher pitched noise as it goes through the gears now also.
I read that sometimes the Right Front mount is removed to replace the compressor.
I have a 2 questions:
1. Is it possible (or probable) that the mechanic could have broken the right rear mount in the event he loosened the front mount and tweaked the engine to remove the compressor?
2. Is is rare or common to have a bad engine mount in a 2003 Windstar with 182,000 miles (mostly highway miles) and light driving?
I had the vehicle for 5 years and had never experienced the loose engine before this last repair.
Thanks very much.
