#1 of 3 Oil in the Coolant, NOT Coolant in the Engine? by edmundscom21

GM 3.4 Engine, 142,000 miles, Silhouette 2002

Noticed temperature going up on the red, stopped and parked within 300 yards. Never turned the engine since. All happened 4 days ago.

Under the hood:

The extended coolant reservoir and the radiator are full of oil.

Oil dipstick shows panty of (synthetic) oil in the engine. It is clean - not "gray", "whitish" or cloudy.

Before the accident, I was driving much uphill, a day before going in the mountain up to 30 degrees carrying 5 people.

No previous repairs, no gaskets, no any engine trouble.

Any observations, suggestions, ideas?

Thank you and God bless!

Had the same problems many years ago with a Fiat 131 and a few years later with a Nissan Stanza. In both cases it was a head gasket.

Good luck.
