#1 of 2 Transmission fluid in oil tank ??? NEED HELP! by frank230686

Hi! I need serious help.
I did my oil change yesterday on my 1999 subaru legacy outback wagon.
Everything went fine until I took off the oil filter, a lot of red transmission fluid was coming out of the filter's emplacement. I think that most of it dripped right in my oil tank because now the transmission fluid is totally empty and the oil dipstick indicates that I've got about 3 times too much fluid in there. I don't believe it is anything normal. I don't understand. Please tell me what I should do with that.

Sounds like the fluids went in the wrong places?

Some shops mistake the transmission drain plug for the oil pan drain plug.

I would drain both and start from scratch, making sure the right fluids and amounts go in the correct places.
