#5 of 30 Just a few weeks' wait
Aug 22, 2011 (11:17 am)
We just signed a purchase order for a 2012 Highlander. It goes into production on 30 Aug and should be delivered to the dealership in Ottawa sometime in mid-Sept.

Hopefully yours comes in as planned. I had ordered a 2011 on May 21 2011 and found out at the beginning of August that I will be getting a 2012. The unfortunate thing is that although Toyota's system shows the car as scheduled to be produced in Aug 2011, it still has not been made yet. This is out of a fairly large dealer in Toronto but they are not able to offer an explanation as to the delay.
We shall see but it sounds like things are a little challenging right now as they try to re-group after the tsunami.
#8 of 30 remote start on pushbutton start
Aug 27, 2011 (9:52 am)
does anyone know if you can add remote start to a 2012 Highlander LTD AWD, the dealer says they can't because it has a push button start- the website shows it as an accessory rather than a factory installed option---i get the sense that the dealer doesn't know what they are talking about----------anyone with information?
#9 of 30 Navigation with backup camera
Nov 13, 2011 (7:59 pm)
Hi, all. I'm interested in the HL Limited w/ navigation. I understand that it also includes the backup camera on the navigation screen. But, does anybody know if the backup camera also displays distant lines, guidelines, or proximity lines to help with backing up?????
My sister 2011 CX9 GT backup camera displays those lines, and I found them to be very helpful.
#11 of 30 Toyota Highlander 2012 base v6 awd

Breaking in your new Toyota
For the first 621 miles
1. do not drive at extremely high speeds
4. do not drive at constant speed for extended periods
1. what is extremely high speed?
2. what is extended period?
I decided to save money on the tech package, but would like to see if I can add some of the features myself. If there's a discussion on upgrade options, can you please provide a link?
I'd like to know if I can add\change some the following:
1. Multi-information display
2. rear camera
3. USB input jacks (the stereo in the base model is different than the one with tech package. If there's no easy way to add usb, I guess I could use AUX to USB cable?)
4. Bluetooth. Can you recommend a good one?
5. Steering wheel-mounted audio controls. The least needed option, but if it's easy to add I'd go for it.
All these things are nice to have that's why I didn't feel like they are worth the $1800 tech package.
I'd like to know if the wiring is already in place and it's just the matter of plugging in a new device.
Another thing -
I tend to slide of the seat even after adjusting the angle. I don't know if the seats with tech package are any different in regards to this, but I figured some kinds of a leather seat cover could do the trick as long as it doesn't interfere with air bag system.
Also, base doesn't have lumbar support. I wonder if anyone has problem with it and what is the possible solution.
#12 of 30 2012 Highlander SE rattle noise when braking initially then goes away
Dec 16, 2011 (7:55 pm)
I recently bought 2012 Highlander SE. I have 300 miles; I noticed that after starting car, when I push brake paddle to put it in the drive, I hear small rattle kind of noise coming from under the hood. It goes away when start driving but if I keep pressing brake paddle and car is in the P gear then it keeps producing rattle noise for minute or two and then it goes away. I read manual and it says noise due to ABS, VSC, TRAC, EBD etc. I hope that is the case.
It is annoying to hear this in new 36K vehicle. Does anybody else have this experience?
