I own a 2000 Sienna XLE with 183,000. I love this van! The check engine light is on. as it the ABS light. Check engine reveals: PO420 Catalytic convertor code and P1130 & P1150 B1S1 and B2S1. (O2 sensors). ABS has to do with RR wheel bearing. Catalytic and rear muffler = $2120.
ABS situation = $673.
I'm facing not doing the repairs to save not paying to fix something that's not worth repairing. I'm looking for opinions on this situation. I was hoping to drive this van for 2-3 more years. I'm not in a position to buy a new Sienna.

thanks in advance, phil in Maine

Phil
I have the exact same van as you (160k miles) and if I were you I'd pass on the repairs. At 180k you are also due for a timing belt change so you are looking at close to 4k on a van probably worth what 4k at best.

John,
Thanks for the reply. I'll get behind my decision eventually. I just don't want to give up too easily.
cheers.

I have 2001 with 107000 miles. I got the timing belt replaced. I also got the error code P0420.and I got the O2 sensors replaced at 102000 miles.
Later the error code P0420 popped up again. I used the CAT cleaner in the fuel and bought a diagnostic tool to erase the code. It is working fine, only when it is icy conditions and my VSC works then again I get the same error code. I just erase it. So far van is running fine.

Thanks for the info. I've got one month to get it all sorted, as the State inspection is due at the end of February.

You are the coolest person on the planet! Thanks for the new and, honestly, much simpler answer to this question that has dogged me non stop for a while now.

I love this van, don't get me wrong, but that company sneaking around about issues and not helping us with expensive repairs due to codes that are wrong ticks me right off! This is the best vehicle I've ever owned, by far.

Now, if anybody owns a Ford Taurus with tranny issues, do yourself a favor and just set the damn thing on fire in a vacant lot somewhere, maybe throw in the body of your nasty neighbor too, to kill 2 defects with one match... ok, I was kidding about the neighbor thing, I just watch too much crime reality television....
As for your answer though, you are simply brilliant! Yay, a voice of reason without a lot of b.s. with big fancy words, finally, lol! No sarcasm here either, I really mean I love this answer and thank you so much!

Finally traded my 2001 LE with 2012 Sienna XLE with floor mats+mud guards+roof rack bars for 31K , Had $500 rebate offer from Toyota so came to 30500 and got $4000 as trade in for 2001 Sienna with 114450 miles on 3/31/2012. (Month end and Quarter end deal)
So financing 30500-4000 = 25500 + tax +tags (transfering from old to new van)
Buying extended warranty from Jerry Johnson 8yrs/125000 for $1420.
I loved the perfect 2001 van but P420 error came up twice within 3-4 months span and no VSC conditions , just crawling in the traffic and it just popped up.
So decided to part with it. New van is more responsive but too big and too fat for the tiny parkings !
