When I tried to start my car this evening, smoke came out of my air vents and from under my hood. Now the car will not start.. it cranks, but will not turn over. Any ideas on what could be wrong or advice??

Smoke or steam? what color smoke? which engine? how many miles on car? recent service? any other symptoms? is it working now? (2 days later?)
