my engine light came on and a friend told me to check gas cap so i did and it still stayed on then he told me to disconnect the negative on my battery when i did the check engine light turned off and stayed off but now my acceleration is sluggish. do i need to take it to the dealer or is there away to reset the computer without taking it to the dealer

If you haven't already, you need to get the code read. Most auto part stores will do it for free. Once you get the code, post on here and someone may be ablel to help.
