#1 of 2 Steering Noise by bdealva

Mar 08, 2011 (4:14 pm)

My allroad started making a peculiar noise when turning hard right some months ago. At first the noise was intermittent - it did not occur with every hard right turn. Now is fairly consistent - pretty much happens with every hard right. I have check the power steering fluid. The noise does not occur with left turns or with steering at normal driving speeds. The noise is fairly loud - probably around 1000 - 1500 Hz in pitch (not a squeal, higher than a groan). I can feel some resistance in the steering when the noise occurs.

I am guessing either the pump or hydraulic actuator/cylinder is going out. Any suggestions for a definitive diagnosis would be greatly appreciated.

I can feel rattling in the steering wheel in my 2000 sierra. Has been there for some time. I though this had to do with an intermediate shaft issue.????
