99 Safari overheated- steam from under van

My 99 Safari overheated tonight. Did not go into the red but was close to it.The steam and the hissing was coming from under the van on the drivers side just behind the drivers seat. Why would the steam be coming from there and not the radiator? I there a line for the rear heater there. The rear heater was off. Can this line be capped off? Just need to get another month or so out of the van until I finish saving p a down pament for another vehicle.Thanks For any advice.
