Recently I've considered buying a 2005 Lincoln Town Car, I need a lot of trunk space. I noticed that in the dash the words O/D OFF were next to the mileage. Is it possbile to actually turn off the Odometer...should I be worried that the current 37,000 miles is not accurate ?

O/D OFF means "Overdrive is switched Off". Has no connection to the odometer.

If this car is like my 97 town car, you press the button on the very end of the shift lever to turn the overdrive on or off. My questions is, why would someone ever want to turn it off? Perhaps if using the car to tow something????

Mountain driving is enhanced when you lock out the O/D as it prevents the tranny from "hunting" when climbing. It is also recommended when descending a steep hill so as to use compression as partial braking.
