#1 of 3 Isuzu Trooper 4WD Actuator Problems by jkoloski

I have a 1997 trooper. One of the vacuum cylinders on the 4WD actuator has some corrosion and will cause the 4WD to not engage. I can disassemble the actuator and clean up the corrosion and it will work fine for a few weeks until the corrosion builds up again.

I have searched local salvage yards for a used part with no success. I found a new part online for $215.00, but wanted to see if there are other options before I shelled out the money for the new part.

Is there anything I can do to modify the system or should I just get the new part?

Any advice would be appreciated...thanks!

I turned the hoses to form a loop that discontinued this function. Then replaced factory hubs with Aisic hubs.

Works great--more power, 1 more mile per gallon gas mileage.

Only thing is you have to leave in lock if you want shift on the fly or get out and turn them to lock to run in 4x4.

Pretty clever. Reminds me of my old CJ-5 days with the locking hubs.
