I am the proud owner of a new Routan and just learned of an action that VW dictates to it's dealers that robbed me of a great option.
I have the 2010 Routan SE with RSE and found that per certain state laws, VW turns off the function that would allow me to see the DVD movie playing in the back, on the front NAV/radio screen. You may not notice this missing if you didn't research the option or didn't view the CDRom that comes with the van.

This feature is great for parents so you can see if you need to press enter to start the kids' movies. Now the feature, when turned on, will only allow you to see the video on the front NAV screen if the van is in Park.

Anyway, I am going to fight this by researching the state law to see if it's specific or vague to just watching a movie while driving.

Anyone else having similar issues?

You can see if the movie is running or not from the Rear VES function. It will show the time of the movie advancing.

hello --

I have to assume you're already aware that Routan is rebadged Chryler Town/Country. Chrysler does various annoying things with Entertainment system that have been addressed by company called Coastal Tech (coastaletech.com).

The product you need is something called LockPick. I just installed a LockPick.v3 into our 2009 Routan SEL and it works perfectly -- unlocks all features (including ability to view ANY input on head-unit when in motion -- including rear camera, video_aux, video VES screen, etc).

I bought off ebay ... but it's cheap solution to complex problem. current solution is now LockPick.v4. includes option to connect to laptop to upload firmware updates over time (regularly updated).
