My rear driver side knuckle bearing needs replacing in a bad way. We have located and bought new bearings, and have figured out how to take it apart and get to it, but we can not get the metal casing to the old one out. Before trying to do this on our own we called all over our county, even the GM dealership. Everyone we talked to said they do not change these, so basically we were out of luck. Is there any tips to getting this casing out? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Do you mean knuckle bushing? I believe some of the replacement ones come with some sort of tool that either helps getting the old one out or the new one in. I ended up just replacing the whole unit so I haven't gone through the process.

Yes, that is what i meant sorry I was super tired after messing with it all day. Thanks for the response, I ended up renting a ball joint press and getting the old one off and then having a tire shop press the new one in. Sad thing, two days later and the new one is already all ate up and worthless. Come to find out, the whole housing has to be replaced because the bushing does not sit in like it is suppose to. How much did the whole unit run you? Going to deal with that in the next few days.

I got mine online from a place that sells GM parts, Google 1st pontiac parts or GM part or accessories and you should find a place. List is about $260 online is about $178. Good luck.

Know this is an old thread, but this info may help someone else now. O'Reilly's has this bushing for 34.99, my local dealer charges 129.99 for an identical aftermarket part. Dealers don't replace it, they install the whole casting assembly new with the bushing installed. I pressed the old one out and the new one in with a generic (Harbor freight) 20 ton press. If you don't want to take it to someone who can press it out and in, the price difference between a dealer installation and DIY can pay for the press.

Thanks! We ended up replacing the bushing having a mechanic friend of ours pressing the old one out and the new one in. It ended up eating that one up as well and we noticed that the hole was kind of warped, so we had to replace the entire knuckle housing. I ended up going to a gm parts website and getting it for 152 plus shipping!! It was a pain for my husband and I to do it ourselves, but I didn't have to pay the dealer price and those high labor cost, plus we got to bond. haha nothing like a married couple trying to work on a car together with high frustration levels.
