#1 of 4 Maintenance and Repair Experiences With High Mileage (100,000+) A4s by hpmctorque

It's rare in any of the A4 discussions for owners to mention histories regarding high mileage cars, unlike with Toyotas and Hondas, for example. Should we assume that the cost of ownership becomes too high, and it becomes uneconomical to keep older Audis on the road?

Can anyone tell about their experiences with Audis that have surpassed 100,000 miles?

My wife's '07 Q 2.0T has 38,000 miles, and we were wondering when we should plan to replace it. We maintain our cars well, and usually keep them beyond 100,000. However, maybe that's unwise with an A4. Comments and maintenance suggestions that aren't in the owner's manual are welcome.

I am in the market looking out for cheap AWD car and found a 2001 Audi A4 Quattro wagon with 105K on it.

What can I expect in terms of maintenance costs considering

Are spares too expensive?
anything specific that dies with this kind of mileage
Typical Engine life

I plan to run the car for a couple of years for about 20k to 25K miles.

Appreciate your feedback.

You'd certainly want to have the car thoroughly checked out by an Audi specialist before buying it.

Engine life is good on Audis, but repairs and maintenance tend to be quite expensive on certain items. It's not a car you want to buy with "needs" or as a "fixer-upper".

If this is the V6, watch for oil leaks at the camshaft end caps----that's $$$

Also, on any A4, do you know when the last timing belt was done?

if this is a 1.8 Turbo, be sure to check the oil for sludge/gelling, and also ask the seller about oil consumption.
