#1 of 1 2008 Kia Spectra Crankshaft Position Sensor by ashabadlia

I own a 2008 Kia Spectra EX with 28,000 miles on it.

On Sunday night when my husband left work he started the car, put it in drive, and the car shut off. He put the car in park, turned the key off and restarted the car and it restarted fine and he drove home (one mile drive)

On Monday morning when driving to work I noticed the car seemed to be losing power. I would push the gas but it was taking forever to accelerate and the RPMs were dropping. I stopped to pay a toll and when I attempted to drive away the car did not want to accelerate. I had the gas pedal to the floor and barely got up to 5mph to pull off.

Kia had the car towed back to the dealer. They kept it all day on Tuesday and said they could find nothing wrong with it. No codes, nothing mechanical, etc and went for 50 miles worth of test drives. They told me to come and get the car.

Pick up the car on Tuesday night and get 2 miles away from the dealer ; stopped at a red light, light changed and went through the intersection and as I accelerated the car would not go. RPMs dropped, gas pedal to the floor again and speed of less than 5mph. Pulled off and had it towed back to the dealer.

Dealer just called and said that a code came up this time for a "bad crankshaft position sensor" They told me this would have caused all the problems I had. They replaced it and took it for more test drives and said nothing bad happened or unusual while testing.

They are telling me to come back and the car and I just wanted to ask if this sounds right to people with more expertise? I'm nervous that I'm going to get down the road and have the same thing occur and this time I might not be lucky enough to get through the intersection without an accident.

From what I have read online (google which I know is not a mechanic) this can cause the problem I had but so could many other things include bad torque converters, slipping transmission, etc.

Thoughts? Experiences? anyone else having these problems?

Thanks!
