OK, I have a bizarre question. I have a 2004 Nissan Titan. We have noticed in the past few weeks a hot/burning rubber kind of smell. We have checked the drive belt and can't find any signs of needing replacement. The only coorelation we can find is that when the gas gets down to about 1/4 tank, that is when the smell appears again. This is the craziest thing in the world! Any ideas on what this bizarre smell may be?
Thanks so much for any insight!

I see that your question is dated 3/1/10, did you ever find out what the problem was? I have a 2005 Nissan Titan with 80k miles and it just started having a burning rubber smell also. I had the serpentine belt replaced and all of the of the rotating devices checked to see if the were binding up the belt. No problems were found there. I do not see any oil leaks that would cause a burning smell.
Please let me know if you have an answer to your problem.
