#1 of 4 oil wont drain

I have a 2008 Sienna. I have changed oil in this vehicle four or five times without a problem. I tried to change the oil today, but only the little bit of oil that was in the oil filter would drain out. I thought that perhaps there was a problem with the plastic pipe that snaps into the filter to drain it, so I removed the entire filter, but the engine oil would not drain.
I have never experienced anything like this; I hope that somebody can help me troubleshoot.
Thanks,
Joe

i just bought a 08 van the other day and plan on changing oil soon.
would oil not drain out of motor or filter, i bought the filter and noted its a canister type rather than a good old simple spin on filter.
i have a 53 year oil tractor that has a canister oil filter, what was toy thinking when they reversed back to a canister filter.
what did you do, put a new filter on and add oil back to motor.

Since I did not change the oil, I put the same filter back in. Then I topped off the engine with maybe 1/2 quart of oil.
The only thing that I can think of is maybe the oil filler cap is airtight and won't allow oil to drain out of the bottom of the engine. Kind of like keeping your finger on a straw full of water. I am going to try to change oil again tonight and this time I will remove the filler cap. I will post here with my results.
I appreciate your response,
Joe
