Simple reason: it's economics ... it's cheaper to pay minimum wage folks to say "I'm sorry" multiple times than it is to pay a good engineer to to design it right, or if the engineer did his job, then the parts buyer ignores the specs. and buys the cheapest brake parts possible from the Chinese who use the same raw materials in their brakes as they do in dog food; no wonder GM brakes howl and the pet food is poison!

I'm up to $1100. Beariings and sensors have been replaced on both side of front. Still getting the ABS fault signel; this included new seals on the axles which was only a minor part of the cost because everything else needed to be removed anyway. I admit this problem has existed for a long time and as you have indicated appeared to be ambient temperature related. I experienced problems when the outdoor temperature raised to about 40 degrees. Sensor did not go off all winter. What is the fix?
The signels are almost continuous at this point.

The problem is almost always a clearance problem between the sensor and the part that it is sitting up against. The sensor a develops a very low voltage pulse as the steel teeth of the gear like part passes by it.
 
Usually these failures can be fixed by simply tapping the back of the sensor in a bit with a plastic hammer. There was never a GM spec released for the sensor clearance because GM never intended to sell the sensor by itself.
 
Occasionally this can also be attributed to rust on the gear like part that passes in front of the sensor. In that case the sensor needs to be removed, cleaned, and reinstalled again.
 
It is rare that the sensor itself is really bad.

You are talking about problems at warmer temps I have not seen anyone talk about the computer that controls the abs system some computer problems are affected by the temp and for both wheel sensors to act up at the same time it could be more of a computer controller problem than both wheel sensors Case in point I had a 2002 Gm that had an engine problem one fall and it would throw a code and I tested everything I could and then it went away all winter and when it started warming up in spring it started to recur again I then took a chance and replaced the ECM and problem went away The Colorado I was checking out tonight also had a code Y 1064 which involves the chassy controller which might be used to control the ABS that what I'm trying to find out now

Why do you think that GM never tells the dealers to clean, adjust or tap the sensor? In stead they charge the owner $1100 (or more) to blindly replace both parts (as indicated by more than a few owners) and the problem seems to more often remain unsolved.
Why would a manufacturer sell a vehicle to the public, after 75 years of making vehicles, that leaks water into the back window and then expects the owner to pay to have the faulty seal to be fixed. Is the faulty seal going to be replaced with another faulty seal that they make and will soon leak like the original part? I would like to know what GM is thinking about these lack of manufacturer quality parts. Do they just want to get us to keep paying them so the corporate executives can take bigger bonuses and get another "Bailout" to line their pockets?

The repair decisions are being made by the mechanic (technician) at an independently owned business (the dealer). The mechanic is being paid by the book and not by the hour. He gets paid more when the work is billed outside (to the customer) rather than paid for my GM (warranty work). The dealer also makes the mark up on any parts used so the more parts used the better for the dealer. If it is warranty or recall work only one part may be used without specific permission of GM.
 
If you complain to GM, they defer back to the Dealer to make the determination on whether you pay or send it back to GM and ask for them to pay.

I bought the truck used, a year and a half ago. It now has 80K miles. I have been able to live with the drivers door speaker that is blown and works sometimes. I was OK with wet floors from the brake light leak that I have fixed. I am OK with the radio that is temperature sensitive and stops working at 65 degrees. The occasional non start due to anti theft system is tolerable. It has no oil leaks, does not smoke, but still consumes a quart of oil with every tank of gas. I got a faulty gas cap warning, bought a new cap and it went away. Still OK that I got a lemon, its a second car. I had brake pads put on right after I bought it. Last fall, I put new tires on it. They inspected the brakes since the wheels were off and all was OK. About a month ago I got the ABS light on the dash. The brakes worked fine and it is springtime so ABS was not needed while driving. The next time I drove it no ABS light or warning message. Then last Friday I picking up my kids from the babysitter. As I turned into the driveway, filled with cars and a yard full of little kids, ( less than 5 mph) I applied the brakes. The pedal went straight to the floor with the chatter of ABS and the truck did not slow down. A quick application of the parking brake stopped the truck. Perplexed and embarrassed in front of a bunch of people I acted like I meant to do it. No ABS fault light on the dash. (?) I put my kids in the truck, started it back up. No ABS warning light. Drove down the road very cautiously, as I approached an intersection I went easy on the brakes. They work fine. With my confidence back, I resumed legal speeds. 1 minute later, I was attempting to slow down to make a left turn and the brake pedal went straight to the floor with the ABS chattering away. My first instinct was to pump the brakes. On the second firm pump, the steering wheel was ripped out of my hands as the truck shot to the right onto the curb barely missing a mailbox. Needless to say I did not make my turn and stopped the truck by downshifting and parking brake. Turned off the truck and restarted it. Magically the brakes returned and still no ABS warning. They worked fine the rest of the ride home. After reading these blogs I knew I needed a fault code for the dealer to analyze the problem. I cannot get it to show a code or go code less full failure. I am afraid to put one dime into hubs/sensors after reading about people replacing them and still have a problem. Any suggestions??? This thing is a death trap and spending 2 grand for my problem not being fixed does not appeal to me. Usually when things are broken they stay broken. This is a computer/electrical issue of some sort. I guess GM will ignore it until people die. I don't have the heart to sell it or trade it in so some sucker like me buys it and runs over his own kids in the driveway. I really don't know what to do next if this is a universal problem and GM won't recall them. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
