Must be a sensor that has to be changed. I had the same problem with one of my car, it was the outside temperature that was going sick, outside temperature could stay the same for weeks. They changed the sensor and it was normal.
Please tell me more about your 2 HHR'S (the more the better).
I presently own a 2005 Equinox but I call it a Junkquinox and trading it pretty soon for a 2010 HHR but I'd like to have some ideas from HHR owner...don't want to get #%$^% again, want to make sure of my move.
  Thank you!

I had no problems at all with my first one. I bought it used with 30K miles on it. It was a great car. The only drawback for me were blind spots in traffic. I had to be careful to make sure I wasn't changing lanes into anyone. I loved my 2007 HHR. I took it on one long road trip (seven hours each way) and it did fine. Great gas mileage and no issues.

Unfortunately it was totaled on New Year's by my daughter, who was run off the road by a drunk driver. The air bag deployed and kept her safe, just as it was designed to do.

The outside temperature gauge has been the only issue I've had with the new car. And the very next day, it was fine. It hasn't stuck since. I understand your hesitation. I've owned a lot of junk in my lifetime and hold my breath each time I buy something new. I think the HHR would be a good car for you.

I have a 2009 HHR 1LT - bought it with 12000 miles, it has 15500 now. My wife and daughter took a 700 mile trip in horrible weather and drove by a large number of cars in the ditch - they had absolutely no handling issues. On the open road, at 65 MPH, it averaged 35 MG. With in town, our overall mileage is 29+. The weak spots are 1) owners manual isn't too helpful and 2) the local Service Dept doesn't know a lot about maintenance timing - they take guesses which don't reflect the manual, I ask GM and they explain clearly (and I save the email). I like it!

My 2008 HHR outside temperature reading will read a cold
temperature 21,29,36 etc. and not change even when it warms up
to 50 or so.
My dealer tell's me I have to drive approxmently six miles for
the computor to correct the right temperature.
I find this questionable.
where can I find the temperture sensor ??

Had the same problem with my 1999 Venture.
I hope I can help you, doesn't hurt to try.
That sensor on my Venture was near the hood's latch screwed on the metal frame just behind the grill.
Since it was a GM product...it may be there.
  Hope this helps.

We just hit 80,000 miles on our HHR love the car but we just started have a issue this week driving down the road, the locks started unlocking while driving (going crazy) then on the dash the check engine light started flashing, started having problems with the power steering and then the transmission was going crazy (felt like it would go from D to N to 1 and 2 gear. what the heck is going on???
