#1 of 3 Underhood access to LINKAGE ARM in 2000 Venture

I can barely see the linkage assembly much less squeeze my arm in there to fiddle around with it.
The gear shift lever at the steering wheel is moving freely withoug any resistance at all, so I know that under the hood there is a small plastic cap that has come loose from this linkage arm that has a small raised knob on it.
Its real hard to see but how on earth do I reach in there to force the plastic kap back onto the metal knob? I asked a parts clerk what new one would cost and he didn't know what I was talking about.

It seems the part was referred to as a Gear Shift Cable. It kept popping off and I don't know why I had to buy a new cable rather than just glue the old fitting on in a more secure manner.
A tube of crazy glue is cheaper than the 140.00 they charged me for a new cable and the 80.00 in labor.
