I have read several issues regarding charging and have not been able to pin point my exact problem. Engine Details/mods: 97 Dodge Dakota EC 5.7 L V8 Manual transmission Jet stage 2 performance chip Jet Pulley upgrade for increased HP (alt, fly, water pump) K&N Air filter MagnaFlow exhaust Problem: Accessories drain battery, if I have more than two of the following running at the same time my charge gauge slowly drops out to below the white line and check engine light comes on. (AC lights radio and wipers etc). Idle is fairly steady at 600 to 700 rpm and without any lights on charge is at about 13.5 amps. When accessories are turned on this drops way out to about 8 or 9 amps. I thought it was the following: Alternator replaced: same problem Computer replaced for voltage regulator: problem persists Battery replaced: problem remains Battery cables replaced: problem remains Tried increasing Idle: problem seemed to be resolved for a short time but I think the computer is returning the idle speed and thus problem persists. I'm thinking the alternator pulley in the kit may be too small and therefore is not generating enough charge to keep the system stable at normal idle as the increase in idle adjustment made the problem go away. Please help completely lost and into this problem for about $600 so far in parts alone. Really appreciate any help here! |
