I'm sorry, but I don't know much about cars and the lingo, so please forgive me if I sould stupid. My mechanic recently replaced the pinions in the rear of my 1989 GMC S15 Jimmy (4 WD). As soon as I got it home, you could smell gas. My husband checked under the vehicle and there is definitely gas leaking. Do you need to drop the gas tank to replace the pinions? My mechanic said no, but I want to make sure I'm not getting ripped off.
