I have an 09 Rondo and the Tailgate Open Warning indicator (similar to Door Ajar, only it is for the rear hatch) doesn't work, i took it to the dealer and the tech told me there is only the Door Ajar indicator, no indicator for tailgate. after telling him i saw it once before (instrument panel on the right hand side), he slammed the rear hatech couple times and the tailgate indicator came back on, but then after a few more open and close the indicator was not working again.   so now i have the service loaner (another 09 Rondo), just out of curiousity, i check the tailgate indicator and IT IS NOT WORKING, after slamming the hatch shut couple time the indicator was working again.   the tailgate indicator is not that important but quite a few times when i unlocked the car using the remote, and then opened the rear hatch to put stuff into the cargo area and the door locked after 30 seconds, because the car thinks i have not opened any door and relocked. really inconvenient.   anyone having the same problem?

I don't have the problem on my '08 model, but the indicator for the tailgate is shown in your '09 owners manual on page 4-45 - tell that tech to read! it says: This warning light illuminates when the tailgate is not closed securely with the ignition switch in any position.   The sensor is located behind the latch assembly.

yes, it was the latch assembly.   now the warnig light is working, and it doesn't lock the doors after 30 seconds when i only have the tailgate open, but i'm surprised that it doesn't turn on the dome light when you open the rear hatch. is it normal? Replying to: 9394 (Oct 28, 2009 9:51 am) Unfortunately it is normal, one of the dumb changes they made with the '08 models. The '07 had a side cargo light and then for some stupid reason they removed it in '08 and didn't wire the tailgate into the rear dome light. It can be done (a member on another forum has done it) but its not an easy task. A few people have just put in the cheap stick on lights or you can keep pushing the remote every 30 seconds or reach in and turn on the dome light but some people can't reach it from the back.
