Should I trade in my 2004 SRX with 103,000 miles or is there more life in the car? I have been the only owner of the car, and have taken good care of it. All the problems that are mentioned under SRX I have had with the car, but they have been generally small issues. Nearing 100,000 miles, I have had to start putting money in the car - $2500 in the last six months, and it is now needing an oil filter housing because I have a pretty big oil leak, the brakes are in need of repair and there is a shudder, the struts are making some horrible creaking sound when the car is cold, the tires are near needing replacement, the stability system light is coming on constantly and the stability system is constantly triggering when it is not necessary causing lack of acceleration. I feel that a car with this amount of mileage is not worth putting more money into, especially a GM car, so I am looking for a new car. Is the life of a Cadillac 150,000 miles, or can I expect these types of issues to continue? When I put the $2500 into the car this year, I figured it would be the last money - the next time it needed big things I would get rid of it. I have a bid from a dealer against a certified pre-owned car for $9300 which seems like a good price. I know nothing about cars, and don't like having to worry about the next thing that will go wrong, and how much (or whether I should bother) to get the car fixed now.

Replying to: bobsams (Oct 19, 2009 4:11 pm) It depends. Naturally, parts will wear out and need replacement as a car gets older. Unless something serious is about to happen I would think that routine "geriatric" repairs would be far cheaper than monthly payments on a new vehicle. tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper |
