A few months ago I bought a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I've had a lot of problems putting gas in the tank though. Although my tank needs gas, it acts as if it has a full tank when I put gas in, and the gas tank will stop every few seconds, like it would do after putting in a full tank. It only seems to be getting worse. It took me about 10 minutes today to put in half a tank of gas before I gave up. Any ideas on what this is? I'm getting about 17 or 18 miles to the gallon. Thanks y'all

When you pump gasoline into the tank try to keep the end of the nozzle from making contact with the tank's filler neck. When the gasoline contacts the filler neck immediately upon leaving the nozzle that affects the back pressure which the pump senses. Let us know whether that makes a difference.

I have a 2002 that just started doing the same thing. My brother checked the codes and a code 442 came up which is an evap emissions leak . Taking it to shop next week. Hope this helps you find your problem. It could be your gas cap, but I don't think I am going to be so lucky. My gas tank had so much pressure in it that I could hear a bubbling noise coming from it, and would not crank up for about 30 min. I was stranded at gas pumps.
Good luck finding your problem.

Deb, I'm not sure if it's the same problem, but try doing what Tidester mentioned. It fixed my problem. Goodluck!

You might just be putting the gas nossle to far into your gas tank I have done it before and it acts as if full when not.
