Get a 2009 MDX now or wait for the 2010? by fastcathy

I'm in Boston and have decided to buy an Acura MDX. I plan on owning it for 3-5 years. The color doesn't matter. It'll be used for short drives (5 miles/day on weekdays, 25 miles/day on weekends) and for and three or four 2 week road trips to Toronto per year. I am not sure whether to get a 2009 model or to wait for a 2010 model. I am trying to make sense of whether the upgrades in the 2010 model are worth waiting for, and which car is the better investment (taking into account the difference in cost and also the value of the car when we sell). Any input/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You'll probably get 10 different answers to this question....

Due to the improvements in the transmission in 2010, I'd personally wait. In a short ownership period of 3 to 5 years, you should be able to re-coupe your extra costs associated with the 2010 model. Also, due to very limited supply on 2009's, there isn't much discounting occurring on the 2009 models.

FYI, Acura dealership here in So. Cal said they won't be out until February.

Wish I could be more specific, but I read in one of the on line car mags that Toyota is having production problems with the new 6 speed trans. Also heard the same story from a competative brand transmission man. My Dad told me never ever to by a new model year vehicle that has had major changes made.
I am 73 years old and would definatley go for the tried and dependable 09 MDX.

OOOOPPs Meant to say Honda is having production problems with the MDX new 6 speed Trans. That would explain the delays.
I also have been looking at the MDX. In view of delayed production I would seriously look at the 09. I don't think I would live to 74 if I bought one though. I have a 2009 Murano with Nav and the Music box back up camera etc etc. with only ten M on it. My wife would have a few kind words for me if I traded an 09 for an 09. Let me know what you decide to do. Steve

I rushed to by an 09 while I could still get the color/options I wanted. The power plenum (coming on the 2010) has not grown on my. I much prefer the look of the 09, but I guess that's purely subjective. The 2010 reportedly has a thicker steering wheel, which would be nice.

2009 vs 2010 by cegledi

I prefer the 2009 because of a few things:
- the new Acura nose blesses the 2010 (not a good thing)
- got a 2009 for well under MSRP
- low APR for financing
- still got the color/options i wanted

What I like in the 2010 is:
- power tailgate is standard
- 6-speed transmission should be a little smoother
- didn't lose a whole year for resale already since I just bought an 2009 right before 2010

To me, not worth it since this is my first Acura and I'm just glad to own a real nice vehicle like this.

I like them both, but I give the 2010 the edge. In addition to what other posters have mentioned, the interior of the 2010 is on another level in terms of quality of materials and refinement. I saw one in NYC and was very impressed.

Looks are deceiving. The late introduction of the 2010 MDX was because of the new transmission concerns. Based on past experience for all MDX owners, I would wait to see what happens when these hit the roads for actual driving experience with the new transmission in the next 6 months or so..

I would really like to get a 2010 MDX. My dealer has no idea when they will actually get to the lot. Has anyone heard the actual ship dates for the 2010 and any idea on what kind of pricing people are getting quoted? I need to get some new tires and brakes on my 2003 MDX and instead of paying $1,000 for tires and brakes I would like to just get a new MDX. I think it makes since to just pay more for the MDX now than put money into my old MDX just to trade it in a couple of months from now.
