Toyota needs to do this! Their current lineup is about as exciting as a discussion of inventory valuation methods at a mud wrestling contest. Their hardware is proven. They've got the technology pinned down, but the styling needs a shot of Tequila. No teenager will fantasize over pictures of a 2010 Toyota Anyting. I hope Toyota gives this FT-86 the green light.

Styling aside, until we see production models, I'd prefer the trimmer, lighter RWD Toyota over the larger and heavier AWD Subaru.

at Motortrend.com...
"The fact that none of these vehicles is still being produced," (Toyota president Akio) Toyoda said of the RWD MR2, Celica, and AE86 Corolla coupe, "makes me, a serious car fan, really sad". The concept's name is a reference to the AE86. However, Tada said the production car may be called Celica."
We only waited seven years for a successor, and this one looks to be worthy of the model as it was from its inception to 1985. They expect late 2011 production for an early 2012 debut. That's still quite a way off, so I hope that part of the article is wrong.
