So I have a ’01 grand prix series II 3800 and yesterday the oil light came on, so I stopped and checked the oil level it was 2 quarts low, unfortunately I do not check the oil level every time I drive it and 2 ½ months ago I had the oil changed at a service center. Anyway this AM I drove it onto the ramps and looked to see if there was anything glaringly obvious, there is only this, all the pan bolts are wet w/oil, I cannot see the front main but that is where the oil has collected in the engine to body vibration mount. My question is can the oil pan gaskets be changed without removing it from the chassis? If there is oil coming from the top of the engine as well is this bic engine? and is it worth it to repair it? I mean I think so, but it has 90K and if I do this much shouldn’t I just do the entire replacement? How much to do this?

My oil is not going anywhere. No oil on the pavement or in the exhaust. I have less that 42,000 on my car. Have only driven it for 9 months and half of that time it has been monitored by the dealership. Fortunately for me, it will be covered under warranty but I have a very definite concern as to the reliability as far as this car goes. Love it but it is very aggravating. First was losing oil at 1500 miles now at 3000 miles. Suggest you check your tranny oil to see if it is going there. I will be doing that tomorrow. At first they had me bring my car in every 1500 miles. Now, they want me to bring it in every 1000 miles. Something is not right here!
