Toyota Highlander 3rd Row Safety by 4xdaddy

Hi all,

My wife & I rented a Toyota Highlander (Base version) for about 3 weeks while our minivan was in the shop. We loved it - nice, smooth acceleration, confident handling in terrible weather, good looks, comfortable seats, etc.

Aside from the lack of cargo space with all rows in use, my other main concern was the lack of a crush zone between the back of the third row and the lift gate. I know that a lot of crossovers have this issue, but Toyota's seem to have the seats within inches of the back glass.

I called Toyota to find out what they had done to address the safety concerns and the reps told me they did not have an answer.

Has anyone else been concerned about this? We have 4 kids so the 3rd row will always be in use. This issue may keep me from purchasing one of these units. Am I right to be concerned?
