This morning I discovered that one or more rats had entered my engine compartment overnight. When I popped the hood I spotted movement in the engine compartment and I noticed a small amount of debris, including a couple of pieces of black foam ( insulation ? ) on the cement under the engine compartment. I started the engine and suddenly I heard a clunking noise. Sort of like what you would hear when something is banging around in the clothes dryer. I checked under the engine compartment and I noticed that a large black cover ( or plug ) from the unit that attaches directly to the engine had blown off. The remains of a rat and some other debris spit out of the opening. ( this unit is ribbed and appears to be attached directly behind the oil pan ). Nothing is leaking out of the open hole but it looks like some more debris is hanging out at the opening. I started the engine again and it still makes that clunking noise. I don't want to start the car or move it until I have a better idea of what has happened. Please advise. Thanks so much for any help. |
