2005 Camry water under rear passenger carpet. How to fix? by stevesr0

We have ~90K miles on the car. Sedan, no sunroof.

Several months ago, we noted water collecting under and on the carpeting in front of the right rear passenger seat.

Recently, we noted it WITHOUT any rain after using the air conditioning for an extended period.

I figure that the air conditioning drainage is plugged and emptying in that location, but I understand that the drainage tube doesn't go to the rear seat. Tried to identify the drainage tube, but couldn't get under the vehicle to look at closely all over the bottom.

Appreciate any advice/suggestions on what's going on and how to fix it.

Thanks.

Are you sure it's not dripping from the a/c ductwork, in the front passenger area?

Possibly running under the carpet and collecting in the back?

Unplug the a/c drain, to prevent leaking into the passenger compartment.

Also make sure that the area in the engine compartment, where the front windshield drains into, does not have water sloshing around in it and drains properly as well.

If the problem isn't the a/c drain, then verify that the drain holes in the doors are open and draining.

Also verify that the door frame itself isn't bent out and not sealing correctly. Try the dollar bill test. Close the door on a dollar bill, and see if it is gripped by the gasket, or slips out easily. If slips out easily, someone may have grabbed the top of the door and yanked it, bending it out slightly. A little persuasion in the opposite direction will usually fix this problem.

The AC drainage tube runs under the carpet in the upper left corner of the footwell of the front passenger seat, just under the dashboard. The hose easily comes off, perhaps if the front passenger puts their left foot up there. This appears to be a design issue. Peel back the carpet and reattach the hose, then you will need to peel back the carpet on the edges in the front and rear passenger side, the water runs all the way from front to back on that side, and use towels to soak up the water under the carpet the best you can, shoving towels all the way under the carpet, as there is a plastic film under the carpet and padding (between the carpet and padding?) that will prevent the water from being dried from the top. Removing the carpet would probably mean having to remove the seats. This happened to me in a 2004 Camry.
