We buy a lot of new cars here at Inside Line. Usually about six to 10 per year for our long-term test fleet, including our most recent purchase, a silver 2010 Chevy Camaro SS. Buy that many cars and trucks and you learn how to do it right. You learn how to make the deal and not get burned.

Nice picture. Way to perpetrate a stereotype.
Of course, if you didn't,there wouldn't be an Edmunds.

Ouch... no kidding. The picture of the pink suit wearing salesmen with greasy slicked back hair and grinning like the cat who just ate the canary was a bit over the top.
I liked the part of walking when becoming uncomfortable with the deal for any reason (taken from my book). The part of "Beware of the F & I Guy" I didn't really agree with. The part of saying no to everything the F & I guys offers is questionable. I do think extended warranties and some service contracts are good for some people. The undercoating, mop n glow, dust and rust stuff are not worth buying.
They could have added a part about how to negotiate/deal/handle dealer add-ons (i.e mud flaps, pin stripping) and doc. fees. Nothing on how to submit an "Out the Door" offer.

Yup, typical regurgitated nonsense.
Wonder what they paid for the Camaro?

I never read the article but I assume they say somewhere in there as they usually break down pricing on their intro articles.
Sometimes it just says they paid TMV for it and they leave it at that.

The tips themselves are good, especially for those who have no clue how to purchase a vehicle.

Not much in practical advice on where to start an offer, target price, and how to negotiate. Just here is Edmunds invoice, retail and TMV... that's it.

Of course, article is just designed to reinforce the Edmunds brand.
