CVT vs 6 speed transmission on A4

I am planning to buy an A4 premium plus for use in south florida. I don't need 4 wheel drive/awd, but the 2wd car has a CVT transmission vs a more standard 6 speed automatic in the 4wd car. Is one more preferable to the other? The CVT feels strange, but then again, I have a lifetime of experience with multi-speed transmissions

while my interest in buying an Audi is rapidly declining (dealer can't get them), I'm still curious if there is a significant difference between the two transmissions. Reliability, pickup, response/delay, etc.
