Great News, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 2010 Dodge Avenger Earn Highest Possible Safety Rating From the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety!

• 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 2010 Dodge Avenger named Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) 2009 Top Safety Picks
• Chrysler Group LLC demonstrates quality and safety in mid-size sedan segments

Chrysler Group LLC announced today that the 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 2010 Dodge Avenger have earned the 2009 Top Safety Pick rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

“We are proud to receive the highest possible ratings from IIHS for the Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger,” said Scott Kunselman, Senior Vice President – Engineering, Chrysler Group LLC. “These sought-after achievements highlight Chrysler’s leadership in safety and security technology and occupant protection.”

When it comes to safety and security, the 2010 Chrysler Sebring and 2010 Dodge Avenger employ a two-fold approach: passive features, including pre-tensioning seat belt retractors and supplemental side-curtain air bags, are combined with accident-avoidance features, including responsive steering, braking, handling and Electronic Stability Control (ESC).

“A vehicle that earns the Top Safety Pick designation provides the best overall protection in the three most common kinds of crashes,” said Adrian Lund, President – Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. “Top-level crash-test performance plus electronic stability control to help keep drivers out of crashes are the tough criteria needed to earn this award.”

Available safety equipment on the 2010 Chrysler Sebring and Dodge Avenger includes ESC with traction control, Brake Assist and ABS, driver and front-passenger active head restraints, front seat-mounted side airbags and advanced multi-stage front airbags. The two vehicles also are equipped with Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH) for child safety seats.

• Active head restraints

• All-speed Traction Control
• Anti-lock Brake System (ABS)
• Auto-reverse Sun Roof
• Auto-reverse Window
• BeltAlert

What good are excellent crash scores for two Chrysler made vehicles that are seemingly atrocious to own. I just read some of the posts for the Dodge Avenger in that forum here and most of them are thumbs down on this machine. Many owners regret having bought them. I was vaguely considering the purchase of a new 2010 Dodge Avenger for myself, but now I'm not so sure. Headaches I don't need. Wotta pity though. Because of its unusual look and because you don't see that many about I thought I could be different in getting one...many small sedans are soooooooooooo boring looking. But with the 2010 Sebring/Avenger I would rather look elsewhere than purchase what appears to be migraines in the making with either of these machines.

I guess I don't understand what some of the bad feedback is with the Avenger and Sebring. I know the base model that a lot of rental places have on their lots probably needs some updates but there are other versions of these cars. Perhaps many opinions were formed from the stripped down base model.

I own a 2007 Sebring Limited with the 3.5L V6 and MyGIG with nav. I bought it two years ago and it's been a reliable and fun car to drive. It has leather seats and every option except for the moonroof, which I did not want. The voice command MyGIG entertainment center and other toys inside are fun to play with and I call it my playground on wheels. I've added some features to the MyGIG that make it even more enjoyable. It has a smooth, quiet ride and I regularly get 23-24 mpg back and forth to work.

When I buy a new car I usually keep it for 10 years or so. I would not have bought a Sebring if I had expected headaches and lots of problems with it, like some reviews claim. I'm looking forward to at least 8 more years with this car and if they are as trouble-free as the first two have been I will be happy with my purchase.

Reliability has been excellent. Mine has the 235hp V6 with a 6 speed transmission. It gets up and went. Has 17K on the odometer and plan on hitting the road with it the end of October. My GIG is enjoyable. FUel economy running around town is 21.5-23mpg and I don't take of slow. Little car is deceptively quick too. Rotors are slightly warped so I bought a new pair (for the front) two weekends ago with ceramic pads. Had Crestwood add black and chrome bodyside molding on the doors as an aftermarket to avoid parking lot dings. Everything works well, and I'm still getting compliments!!
