Did you read my prior post(#10)? My MS3 has also needed a new turbo. Then there's the fact that none of the Louisville dealers are even remotely competent regarding sales, parts, or service. I should also point out that I instruct at HPDEs and I thought a borderline quick FWD car would be a fun change of pace. As it turns out, the Mazda is a great daily driver/grocery getter, but it is not very much fun on the track. Did I mention that the bad strut cost me a week of instructing at Watkins Glen?

As for my other cars? Let's see...
My 1995 3 Series has 115K on it and it needed nothing but scheduled service until 80K, when I replaced the engine drive belts and a couple of idler pulleys as a precaution. Oh yeah, in the past year it has needed a thermostat and a brake light switch. It has averaged $33/month to run(and that includes three sets of track tires) since I bought it new in 1995.
My wife's 2004 X3 had an SRS sensor replaced under warranty. At 84K it has only needed one set of brakes and one set of tires. Its maintenance/repair costs have averaged $56/month since we bought it in 2005.
My 1999 Wrangler needed brakes, shocks, a radiator, and an exhaust manifold in 107K miles- but I knew going in that a Jeep would need a bit more service and repairs.
I've only had my 1975 2002 for 11 months; it's a a toy that I'm fixing up.
My 1996 Speed Triple has needed a battery and starter relay since I bought it in 2005.

I can't believe the don't offer a package with Xenon and auto wipers. I really like those features on my '07. The itty-bitty nav screen seems silly.

Update:
It seems that my 2007 MS3 now needs a new variable valve timing actuator- so that makes three major warranty repairs prior to 50,000 miles. My dealer has been great, but I'm very disappointed with the reliability of my MS3.

Decline in the car's pucker factor ...? by zedoc

After reading both reviews, I have no idea whether this is a good, very good or great car. I can't make heads or tails out of either opinion.

This is the second worst automoto-journalism ever.

The MS3 loses three tenths on the shifter because the shifter won't let you shift fast? Does that mean when I drive I can't shift the thing? What in the world are they talking about?

simple handling prowress is usually enough to get the staff at edmunds to overlook the speed3's shortcomings.

granted, i find this car better than the last, especially its newfound stability over patchy pavement. (a car should handle well over different types of roads, not just smooth ones imo.)

i personally like the way it looks. it looks very japanese and it should be proud as such!

that slalom speed is off the charts fo sho.

but it hasn't rendered cars like the sti or evo useless. they are still quite a bit faster and awd= king when the weather is awful.

Sure the new gaping maw front end is butt ugly, but you can't see it sitting in the drivers seat, which is where I would enjoy this car the most.

agreed, though i'm not going to lie and say that looks done influence people at least in a small way.

i happen to prefer the way the mazda looks over the genesis though. its orginal, not a infiniti g wannabe.

That seems to be Hyundai's strategy with a lot of it's models. Target a specific car and build a low cost knock off. I'm not saying it's a bad idea.

I think the article states the shifting issues is that they electronically nannied the power deliver at the point of shift. Once you re-engage the clutch, power is intentionally lagged. One of the complaints I have seen (and experienced) is the inability to shift smoothly into second and sometimes third gear. Looks like they tweaked the EC to mitigate this complaint. Personally, I don't find it that big a deal in my '07. You learn how to finesse it after a little while.
