1996 Camaro A/C Charging by dcrawford1

Trying to charge my system, however I can not run the compressor. My "Haynes" manual states that I pull the low-pressure cycling switch plug from the evaporator inlet line and attach a jumper wire across the terminals to engage the clutch. I pulled what I think is the switch and it has three terminals. So I found out that two teminals run the radiator/condenser fans, however, after every conceivable jumper wire combination, I can not engage the compressor clutch. I have checked the A/C fuse and relay and they seem OK. Assuming the compressor is OK, how do I get it running and if it is not OK, how do I determine that it is defective? Car has 33,000 miles and little A/C use.
