I may be looking for a new Acura as early as the end of November or December. I know it's a bit early to tell what will really happen in the car selling world. However, which of these would, in the long run, be a better buy-2009 TSX w/tech, 2009 TL base, or 2010 TSX?   Here are my thoughts: 1. In my immediate area, there are about 4 TSX's w/ tech left and are discounted by $2000 (no base models). There may or may not be any left in 3-4 months, but in this scenario let's say there will be. Will they be discounted even further in 3-4 months? 2. TL's, even the base, seem plentiful right now. (12 base models alone at both stealerships) Since the 2008 TL's were discounted $3,500 last year (maybe the new generation?), will Acura will do the same with the 2009's? 3. The 2009 TSX base & tech have excellent depreciation, (Internet Auto Guide, Intellichoice) 4. The 2009 TL base has average depreciation. Other 2009 TL models are below average to poor. (Internet Auto Guide, Intellichoice) 5. TSX is smaller but has 60/40 fold down seats which the larger TL's back seats don't fold at all. I have a 60 lb. dog. 6. POWER: TSX has the 4 cylinder engine, TL has the V6. (The 2010 TSX is offered with the same V6, but is way overpriced, IMHO-base V6 = $34,850 MSRP) 7. MPG's: TSX 4 cyl. = 21/30 TL = 18/26 TSX v6 = 18/27 9. If all 2009 TSX's are sold, will the 2010 TSX be discounted at all in Nov./Dec.? 10. Insurance is pretty much the same for either model per year. 11. Reports the 2009 TSX engine pings. How wide spread this is, who knows?   Did I forget to calculate anything else into the mix? Replying to: 1bythesea (Aug 16, 2009 3:23 pm) tsx has a timing chain-tl has a belt- I am planning to get another acura in either March/April 2010- I presently own a 06 6MT/nav tsx, bought new 11/06. It has almost 90,000 problem free miles.

Replying to: 1bythesea (Aug 16, 2009 3:23 pm) Since you appear to be looking carefully at depreciation, having the one year newer car is a fairly big deal if you're looking to get out from under it in 2-4 years. If you plan to drive the wheels off it for 8-10+ years, it doesn't matter a bit which one you choose. If the financial thing trumps all else, get either car and drive it to 200 - 300K miles. That's something that you can do with a Honda that you can't do with many cars.   If you want the latest and greatest and are prepared to pay for it, you'll have to pay a premium, sometimes a huge premium, over those 8-10+ years.   I've had my TSX ~18 months & it has accumulated ~24K totally trouble-free miles. Nice car -- only failing is its front-wheel drive, and I knew that going in. It replaced a car that turned 10 last May.

Strangest thing happened today. Picked up my '07 RDX from being detailed and was asked if I'd considered trading it in? With six months left on the lease I really didn't figure there'd be equity in it, since leases tend to over estimate actual worth to keep monthly payments low. Surprise! I had equity and got a good deal on a 2010 TSX base that had been on the lot maybe two weeks. By good I mean $200 over invoice plus equity. So I bit and bought the TSX. Problem solved!
