99 Blazer No 4x4 Lights and No engagement ???

I just picked up a 99 S10 Blazer that has an issue with the 4x4. It has the (3) light switch on the dash. When the truck is turned on the lights do light up during the check process. After that, the switches do NOT light up at all and I can not get the 4x4 to engage. After driving a few miles the Service 4x4 Light comes on. There are no unusual noises or vibrations when driving forward. However, when I go in Reverse and make slow sharp turns, there is some vibration underneath the truck. Can someone tell me the Troubleshooting process or where (on the Net) I can find info on my setup ? Thank you!
