2010 Buick LaCrosse CXS Full Test and Video - Bottom Line: This 37-year-old would rather be seen driving a Buick LaCrosse than a Lexus ES 350.(more)

I also drove a 2010 LaCrosse today-a CXL. I was a little surprised how,in every way,I thought it really a great, quality car. It had the base engine;as much as I've always liked cars,I don't think a car like this often need the extra power to drive at "7 tenths",as Road&Track used to say. The car was very tight-utterly rattle free...I actually thought it very Mercedes-like. The steering had a bit more heft to it,which is a very welcome addition. For the sake of "drama",the roof is far too low...you just have to roll your eyes and say,"ah,Detroit" on that. I don't like it,but it's not a deal breaker. This car is way at the top of my short list!

Get with the program dude. . . . Yes I would by the Buick over the Lexus anyday. The ES looks like a washing machine and would probably drive like one if it had four wheels and and steering column. Yes GM has had its issues in the past but anyone who has any common sense about business is able to see what GM's new strategy is. Beef up Buick so Cadillac is able to start entering a market it could never compete with in the past. Ultra Luxury: Cadillac could never in a Million years compete with car like Maserati, Bugatti, or even Jaquar for that matter but to beef up Buick might create room for Cadillac to truly justify sellling a $80,000 convertible against the likes of companies like mercedes and porche. The idea is certainly a bit far fetched but so was the fact the GM would be a company of only 4 brands less than a few months ago. Kudos goes to Buick for redirecting their targets for success.

I am a Lexus ES 350 owner in central Texas and I love my car but the 2010 Buick Lacrosse got me thinking and trying to convert. I have yet to see a loaded CXS which is the only one that will compete trying with the Lexus ES 350. The problem with Buick saying that the Lacrosse can compete is that there is really only one ES 350 model with different options where as there are three Lacrosse models two of which cannot compete due to it engine size and price. Then there is the quality of service. As far as I have experience from the Lexus dealer Sewell in Dallas which I frequent they treat you as a king no matter which model you own. I got a loaner almost every time I been there except once when adding an accessory that took a whopping 20 minutes. They have offered to pickup my car for routine service and drop off a loaner at no charge and I live about 2.5 hrs away. I had my car in for service was given an RX and told to keep it until they call me and if it is not done in a reasonable amount of time take it home and they will bring my car to me. What I am saying is that service is a real plus. Now I went to some Buick dealers, they did not know everything about the car, giving out wrong info, tired to sell me the base model car instead of what I want. Got an attitude when I said I want a car that is truly equivalent to mine or better and no you have to special order it. The option I am waiting for is the DVD entertainment system which is not going to be available till spring of 2010 so if you are looking for that option and was told they can find it sorry they can’t as yet. Sit and wait for the shuttle bus and that only goes so far. Now some do offer a loaner but not as simple requirements as Lexus. I will give props to Sewell Buick in Dallas and Freeman Pontiac Buick GMC in Grapevine they were honest and knew what they were talking about. For Buick to compete they must compete solely by themselves individual dealerships etc. Now I am still going to get the Lacrosse or should I say try too if I get a good trade in on my car and so far they are not doing a good job because if this auction system they are using . Gone are the good days of the dealer buying you car. Now with the auction you really do not know what you are getting only what the dealer said they got. Go figure!

Saw the nice article in the USA today about the Lacrosse. Nice car but pretty expensive. Then again I think most cars are too expensive. However, I have doubts about whether it can reallly compete with the Lexus ES. In theory it can but I really think the fact that they will stripped down CX models makes it impossible. I think Buick would be seen of more of a Lexus competitor if they quit making their CX models, which they won't do since they are probably their bread and butter models. Think about it does Lexus sell any stripped models.

Many people do not see any value for luxury dealer experience which costs money. There is no free lunch - you pay for this niceties one way or another, or dealers would be bankrupt. IMO LaCross is better than ES because it is not based on cheap Japanese mass-production car but on sturdy award winning German platform. |
