Trooper starter replaced - won't run

93 Trooper 3.2 SOHC I replaced the starter and removed the exhaust pipe to do so. Before replacing pipe I re-connected the battery and cranked the motor. the truck did not start but popped like a back-fire. I replaced the pipe and now truck won't start. I checked the fuse and the relay,they are ok. If I let the truck sit for a little while it will run for a second then die. I ran a hot-wire to the fuel pump and it works fine. I dis-connected the battery for a length of time to no avail. Please help!!!!
