I currently have a 2004 Dodge Neon SE, with 68,800 miles. It is in great shape with no major problems of any kind. The KBB Value for a private sale in good condition is 4740.00. Currently the payoff on it is 2804.55. My credit score is very low due to past issues. Recently looked at several vehicles, including a 2009 Hyundai Accent with only 10 miles, $14,485. Was told a newer car would be better to loan against because of it's value. However, the best deal they would make was 750.00 minimum down, payments of 365.00 per month. So let's say I sell the car for say, $4400.00. Let's say the above has now occurred and I have approximately 1600.00 cash, but now no trade in. Would it be to my advantage to look for a less expensive used car, or a brand new one? I could make an instant down payment of 1600.00, but without the trade in, would it be harder or easier to get approved? Really a newbie at private party sales...any comments and tips would be greatly appreciated!
