On Friday I took my '07 Highlander Hybrid in for a routing 35k service (oil change) and a state inspection. The service advisor came over and said that the brake fluid was dark in color and that it would be advisable to change it. I agreed. Next thing I know it is taking hours and I'm not going anywhere. Eventually they tell me that there seems to be a bigger problem and that the engine warning light lit up like a Christmas tree. After a while they tell me that the skid control module needs to be replaced, they say it's under warranty and thus no cost. They then offer me a loaner, since it is now hours and I have appointments. Another day passed and I still don't have my car. They now tell me more and some of it is as follows: This skid control module is expensive ($2,500) and rarely fails, so they didn't have one in stock and had to order one. It was delivered later that Friday, Also it is complicated to install and they have had as many as 3 mechanics working on it. There is a complicated sequence of manual flushing and computer controlled calibration involved and at some times the vehicle became too hot and they had to wait for it to return to ambient temperatures. Since this is now 2 working days that my car has been in the shop, I'm not feeling too comfortable with this and I'm starting to suspect that something went awry during the service process. Perhaps a mechanic messed up? can anyone enlighten me and perhaps advise me on how I can go about getting the true facts of the case? |
